I just heard on our local BBC Essex news that a British woman in Tenerife has been killed by a Bulgarian bloke. From what I heard, it took place in a shop and she was decapitated. I didn't hear anything on the Radio 4 news at 6 o'clock, so I guess they're saving it for later on after the watershed? God, it was just awful hearing about it. BBC Essex warned us that it was very descriptive - and it was.

BBC Essex warned us that it was very descriptive - and it was. I saw it on the BBC site. Seems like the Bulgar walked into the supermarket, picked up a knife from a shelf, decapitated her and walked out the shop carrying her head. As Gothboy has pointed out 'though, surely you don't get to buy kitchen knives in a supermarket that are sharp and strong enough to decapitate someone just like that? Must have been a machete or something surely? I think the word is that the Bulgar is some kind of mental case; don't think he knew the woman or anything. Just a random act of madness. Horrible.

Knee jerk reactions....Tenerife bookings slump....millions head for Scarborough...until The Sun prints 'Broken Britain...streets not safe.' 200 britons killed annually while abroad...murders, muggings, roadkills etc'. Most not reported.

Yes, it is odd that someone can be decapitaded with a kitchen knife.
'Tis curious though that it isn't the fact that he killed the woman that has shocked people; it is the fact that he cut off her head.
I can remembe reading of someone - and I can't remember whether is was a psychologist or a journalist or what - relating how he interivewed the mass murderer Denis Nilson in prison. The interviewer said he asked how Nilson could have abused the bodies of his victims the way he did and Nilson replied along the lines of "Surely you should be more worried about what I did to them when they were alive?"

God, I remember the Denis Nison thing. It was vile.
A friend of ours worked with a chap who went to view the house/flat(?) where the murders took place when it went up for sale. He was unaware of its notoriety but soon withdrew from the sale once he knew!

Can't imagine what the poor family of this woman must be going through...it is truly horrific. Apparently she had reported being followed by a man just a short time before the incident. The man was a 'paranoid schizophrenic' who couldn't afford his tablets.
