Nothing beats the sheer awfulness of American tea (in fact "nothing" is preferable). They drink this dreadful stuff called Lipton's. Ye gods it's foul, especially if you prefer really strong tea. Correct in every particular. Strangely enough, the Dutch do sell rather good tea in their better supermarkets (usually labeled Engelse Mélange – English blend). Trouble is, nobody here knows how to brew it. It's as if they wave a teabag vaguely in the direction of a glass of warm water and hope for the best. What a waste. They are said to be ace hands in the coffee department, but, really — why bother. Coffee is shite, as Riot might say.

Coffee is shite, as Riot might say. Only the vile instant stuff in jars.

I've just had one of them - I daren't have real coffee yet (too mouth-drying). Anyway, the instant stuff was was fine.
Riot - tea is shite? Do you realise what you're saying there? No? Ok. Scotch Whisky is... no I can't do that one. Ok. Try this - that Irn Bru - that's shite. Actually, it's so long since I've had it that I can't remember what it's like. But anyway. Tea is great. I just like to have coffee sometimes, that's all. Yes, even instant.

I watched a bit of a programme about superbrands and Coca~Cola is the leading drink drunk (not just leading coke, leading drink) in every country except one. Wanna know which one? Och aye. Irn-Bru. It's like Braveheart all over again.

I hate any cola drinks. Just can't stand them. In fact, I'm not keen on many soft drinks. I tend to stick to tea, coffee, wine, beer and spirits. And water.
I, too, drink instant coffee. The real thing always promises more than it delivers - for me anyway. I buy Gold Blend, which I find quite nice. I always drink my (instant) coffee very strong.

Coke is filth. Pepsi is the true king of soft drinks...and 7 Up is also boss, it's like a snappy lemonade with attitude. As for coffee, I don't drink much, so a jar of Maxwell House "Rich Blend" serves my occasional coffee needs. AH

Coke invented Fanta for the Nazis. That's true.

Coke invented Fanta for the Nazis. That's true. An army needs it's fizzy orange drinks. I expect that the Nazi's probably got a taste for oranges via their pre-WWII adventures in Spain. AH

I had Dandelion and Burdock relatively recently (5 years back). It tasted just as I remembered: and it wasn't awfully sweet, either. I'm looking forward to having more.

I won't be taking the above book onto the ferry (which is bigger than the Titanic). Biggest ferries in the world. Slightly shorter than the Titanic, with a few fewer passengers, but plus hundreds of road vehicles and with enough life-saving equipment. Plus en-suite bathrooms even in steerage, and unlimited Heineken, Red Bull, and WiFi, not to mention TV in every cabin . . . One of the ships (there are two). One steerage corridor on Deck 10. [Swedish ferry company, ships built in Germany, naturally. Thank you, Maggie.]

I haven't had a 'proper' cup of tea in 5 years.. [tried it black once...yuk]
I only ever had tea with a fry up but since I gave up red meat and milk the taste is a mere memory...
Black coffee for me now...and I treat myself to good ground stuff, strong and dark ....

Just got an Ocado voucher in an Amazon package, with a photo of half a scone on it. From the bottom: scone, cream, jam. I thought you should be told.
Mind you, the cream looks like it's been piped, and in fact it looks more like that stuff you used to get in sandwich cakes — I forget the term. But nevertheless, it's between scone and jam.

That's another thing - strong or weak? I like it fairly strong, sometimes very strong, and with more milk the stronger it is. I like it to have a nice orangey colour, rather than dirt brown. Strong.

Ah, Stena Line! I've fond memories of a trip to Denmark and amazing (though not cheap) buffet dinners.
We went a few years later and the buffet didn't seem a patch on what we remembered...but maybe they had been magnified in our memories.

They run the Newcastle-Amsterdam route. Used to do Esbjerg. Excellent buffet. 100+ dishes, they say. Not cheap.

Fred. Olsen (Bergen Line) from Newcastle did a wonderful buffet - it wasn't all fish, but really you didn't need to bother with the rest.
