I watched the 1969 moon landing in a bar in Lloret de Mar. It was all in Spanish, obviously.
I can remember being a bit underwhelmed - I don't think I could grasp just how momentous it all was.
Tsk! How stupid.

i was watching when the Challenger blew up and felt very saddened because i knew it would put the Space Program back in progress, even since then the progess has really be limited. The only way for my space exploration is for all Earths rich nations to club together, unfortuantely the energy is wasted on stupid wars instead. This over human populated planet, short on food production, climate could do with some where else to in habit. I loved Gene Roddenburys ideals for future Earth and space exploration

In 1969 the t.v. stations in Spain spoke Spanish, I think. They might have spoken Catalan in Lloret, but I didn't take much notice. I seem to remember we were in a bar in the afternoon. Maybe we were watching them actually on the moon rather than landing. I've always thought it was the moon landing, but maybe it wasn't. As I said, I was a bit underwhelmed.

Weyland, now you have me puzzled. I just went to ask Mr. E. whether he remembered it (he was with me at the time) and he's sure we watched the moon landing. Maybe it was recorded and we were watching the Spanish news or something.

They landed just after 20:00 GMT, and Armstrong did the great "step" deed at about 03:00 GMT. I watched it all live on my mother's ancient and dodgy console TV. Never to be forgotten. There may have been tears.

I watched "First Men in the Moon" last night to celebrate the spaceyness of it all. Martha Hyer was well cute in this movie. AH
