Gosh, a terylene/nylon dress for your daughter in a gay colour - pink perhaps?
I vaguely remember terylene, which doesn't seem to be around any more - or does it have a different name? People don't buy things called nylon do they - just polyester/lycra/spandex.

Since posting that I decided to add to the world's carbon footprint by googling Terylene, and it seems to exist; it is an ICI polyester fabric which, combined with nylon, would I think be sure to make your little girl quite electrifying!

.........and don't stand too close to the fire either!
I remember Nationwide having a bit of campaign about that in the seventies, or it might have been That's Life - against the use of highly flammable material in clothing.

Just found one website that converts the money into todays (or 2007's) equivalent based on the retail price index and average earnings. So, so far the radio above at "39/6" or £1/19/6 is; £24.69 on the rpi, and £48.25 on average earnings. The shaver apparently: £49.69 using the retail price index. £97.11 using average earnings. The binoculars: £199.70 using the retail price index. £390.26 using average earnings. This was the website used, (First one I came across anyway) if anyone can find a better one, please let us know ?? www.measuringworth.com/ppoweruk/?redirurl=calculators/ppoweruk/

This is a diversion, but I am always a bit puzzled by the phrase "average earnings." Sometimes it is beased on what used to be called "blue collar jobs" rather than averaging out the earnings of every single person in the country. It is a bit like graduate salaries, which are quite a different thing to the salaries graduates actually earn.
