My brother went to see this at the cinema when it was released over here and he said the place erupted at this final scene.

(The opening is really good as well: but I can't find that on YT.)

Three things: I've never seen that film all the way through Mr. E. always reckons he can play that theme tune on the piano (he can't) I used to have a great-great uncle who played the zither.

You should, Everso. It is about the most perfect film ever made. I usually think that I'll just watch the first bit: and then, 100 minutes later... (I'm the same with North by North West.)
I find the tune very hard to hum, even; the notes are spaced differently to how you expect.

North by North West - is that the one where he's chased by a plane in a cornfield? I like Cary Grant. 'Bringing Up Baby' is one of my all time favourites.

Orson Welles...I think someone did a skit once ...the man who lived his life in reverse...started out as a major Hollywood producer, writer, actor and director....then finished up doing TV commercials for cigars.

Chris, getting back to your OP, yes, the ending of Titanic is uplifting. But, honestly, would you have thrown that bloody great gem into the sea?

I think she went a bit batty toward the end of the film Everso...did the gem signify her joining Jack in the afterlife? ...and also...a bit alarming to die and find yourself back on board the Titanic.

Ooh, Chris. Did you watch the programme on Channel 5 this evening about the sinking of the Titanic? It was very interesting. And apparently James Cameron is re-releasing Titanic in 3D next year (centenary year).
I shall make Mr. E. take me to see it.

You can always experiment with your own 3d version at home everso. Oh yes...simply put the DVD on and get Mr E to ocassionally rock your sofa back and forth, throw the odd bucket of salt water over you, and slap you from time to time in the face with a wet haddock.

The ending of Black Narcissus, with the Nuns leaving and then the rain falling on David Farrar's face is pretty wonderful - he said they'd be gone before the rains came. (not on Youtube, though.)
