Just watched Kiss Me Kate.....Howard Keel still does it for me...*sigh* Wasn't he in Dallas? I think he played the local shrew-tamer. Here he is on a rare day off, at the garden centre with his sister, Sandy Toksvig, perusing the tumbleweed and cactus pricelist:

Just watched Kiss Me Kate.....Howard Keel still does it for me...*sigh* I watched it too, BB! I actually sat on the sofa and watched it. Wondeful garish colours and terrible acting, but oh the music! Cole Porter at his finest. There were so many songs in it that have become great over the years. Howard Keel in his heyday was lovely too. And what about Ann Miller's legs! Fab.

South Pacific always floats my boat too.
And Oklahoma. And Carousel. And The King and I.
I know all the words.

Akcherly, there was a time when we would occasionally have a bit of a sing-song in the chat room.

I'm going to see South Pacific at the Birmingham Hippodrome next Feb...[must resist the urge to sing along] Ooo lucky you! I love the music. I'd definitely be singing along or maybe just a gentle humming. I'm sure the people in front of me would enjoy that.

I remember at a Van Der Graaf concert some bloke next to me insisted on singing along (the most striking thing about Van Der Graaf is the singing: no one sounds like Hammill, and you do not want him drowned out).

OMG!!! you're the only person in 30 years to mention Van Der Graaf!! I had most of the albums..[long since lost sadly] but people would go blank when I said the name!

yay yay yay!!! I never saw them in the 70s - I only just discovered them when they were about to split, again, in 78. But I did see them at the RFH and Shep Bush Empire in 2005 and the barbican. And i've seen Hammill loads and loads of times. They were so far above the normal Prog lot that it isn't surprising that hammill never wants to be in those BBC4 type prog programmes. All prog singers seem terrible once you've heard him (except Van Leer out of Focus). More VDGG fans, though, good grief. They turn up all over the place - that bloke who directed the Ladies' Detective Agency film was one as well. And the Guardian's architecture correspondent. Right. I'm off to my bed now. 'Night. God bless you all, though.
