you can,not that i agree see how muslims see the hijab is a sensible option for women,to protect girls from inappropriate clothes, and undignified attention Not really, in this context anyway. As far as I know the clothing regulations only really come into force for girls as they mature. The more mature, the more they must cover up. Three-year-olds are not required to wear a burka. Thirty-year-olds are.

Huh? What is that picture? It looks like a family picture that you are taking out of context, tbh. It almost certainly is, but somebody posted it openly on the net, so they didn't mind non-family members seeing it. It's clearly a child dressing up. I thought it was amusing in a gentle, fluffy sort of way, and I posted it to avoid making serious reply to chris. But I'll remove it if only because it's distorting the page.

Sorry, Bonbon, I was talking about the photo in Jean's post but the whole post is gone so it looks like I was talking about the photo you put up.

It's easy enough to understand what it means in this context. I know it's your birthday, aubs, but you're not getting away with that. The bnp have been demonstrating outside a school in Yorkshire (with threats to demonstrate outside the houses of teachers: "Mental paedophiles behind sick plan must drop it or face demos at home too.") against what they call the sexualistion ("Sex Education" - things like explaining the difference between boys and girls maybe before they find out themselves) of primary schoolchildren. Whenever someone comes up with a reasonable definition of sexualisation, someone else will always take it to mean stuff like this. The BNP think ignorance (they call it innocence) is better than knowledge, as if ignorance ever prevented child abuse.

Here is a 5 year old being sexualised (rather than doing something for herself and having it called sexaulised):

I was surprised last year to see girls in prom dresses getting out of long cars - in Doncaster, of all bloody places. Not Right!

You're not alone, Aubs. I hate all the over-the-top glitzy show-offy way of life nowadays. And the school prom crap is just about the pinnacle of it. That, and hen and stag 'nights', where they jet off to Las Vegas or the Maldives for a week. I made do with the Lacy Lady at the Seven Kings Hotel. Also weddings. When Mr. E and I married (38 years ago) we hired a hall and arranged our own caterers, bought our own booze and had no honeymoon - because we couldn't afford it as we were struggling to pay our mortgage. Nowadays it seems that the wedding is the most important thing - not the being married.
