Would it be possible to portray it the other way around?

So an advert that showed a man going to his wife's work and punching her in the mouth would be ok then?

Therein lies my point! You couldn't could you! A Woman doing such a thing is supposedly showing assertiveness and The horrid thing is that many men suffer abuse, mental and physical from their wives and/or girlfriends - take that into account and the advert, as is, is not suitable either. On the other (third) hand. Are we right to over-analyse? Just letting it go as a bit of a light hearted way to promote underwear? Doing some Googling around there isn't a lot of discussion going on about it. A few comments on the Youtube showings, and if you add "Domestic Abuse" to the search, just one result where it's mentioned in a Times Article

The punch spoils it, it would be wittier had he been left in some embarrassing situation for the rest of his office to see, and make the same point. I wouldn't sanction this ad for TV.
But, meh, it doesn't encourage women to punch their husbands.

If it was her husband who was working late at the office she'd be getting into her jammies and slippers and sitting in front of the TV enjoying the peace, not glamming herself up and going halfway across town to seduce him.

Actually, when Best Beloved worked late (2 til 10 shift) at the office I'd pop into town and take a trip to the offices of J.D Wetherspoon and Co for an in depth meeting, it was usefully just one block away from her office.

Do you know, I thought it was a very sexy, very funny advert. Maybe the punch in the mouth was going a little too far, but I loved the knickers stuffed in his mouth (let's face it some men go for that kind of thing anyway - so I'm told - but not many of us girls would care to eat a pair of Y-fronts)
And the little old Mrs. Mopp bit, "You all right love?", was perfect.
