...for 24 hours. Imagine a World Without Free Knowledge For over a decade, we have spent millions of hours building the largest encyclopedia in human history. Right now, the U.S. Congress is considering legislation that could fatally damage the free and open Internet. For 24 hours, to raise awareness, we are blacking out Wikipedia. Learn more...wikipedia (18/01/2012) Those internet hating yankee bastards!

Hands off our internet you bastards! AH Hear Hear Alph... the British government are the allies...young british lad currently being aggressively pursued by the US for hosting a website advertising free films. He could be extradited and face 10 years in jail. Our government backs this policy. They have declared war on the internet.

The law isn't as bad as it was. Obama has said that he won't back big chunks of it. Murdoch has used Twitter to slag him off. Well, piss off, Rupe. It is great to be able to watch Game of Thrones without your 12 minutes of adverts an hour: this on a channel that I've already paid for.

Wiki is handy, BUT you do tend to be wary of it regarding the "Anyone can edit" thing. Anyway, search hard enough and you can find the web pages where the information can come "Out of the horses mouth" so to speak - or as near as dammit.

According to the book version of Grove's dictionary of music and musicians, Nigel Kennedy once played in The Fall. And that will be around for at least 100 years, with no chance of anyone editing it.
(The truth is, he played for a short time in a group with Brix Smith, who had just left The Fall. But he was never in The Fall himself.)

Aubs can always bring the conversation round to The Fall. How true. They are Aub's equivalent of Royalty. Me? Fleetwood Mac circa 1968. Or Dire Straits. Or -- brace yourself, Ev -- The Kinks.

Apparently you could still get Wiki on the mobile service.
I'm in two minds (no surprise) about downloads/illegal downloads etc. Part of me thinks that it's a huge amount of sour grapes by the publishers/music producers/sellers because they didn't get to grips with online market quickly enough!? They could have made a bomb by selling their products at reasonable prices - if they'd bothered. Yet now they're left behind and just expect the Government to legislate and pick up the pieces for them! Some of the bands/groups that have taken to selling direct to the public probably think the same - and after all - If home taping didn't kill music then home downloading surely can't?

There is some really evil stuff on the internet - and I'm not just talking about pornography: indeed one of the worst sites I've seen is something called Labour25. Click on it now and virtually all you will see a list of child sex offenders "connected" to the Labour party but it has been toned down a lot. When I first saw it on another board it was gobsmacking in its ghastliness, alleging that paedophiles were joining Labour because it offered them a safe haven.
It said such awful things about Harriet Harman that I found myself posting in her defence. Things had to be bad!
But of course nothing will be done to block sites like that.

It would probably be best to leave them. Blocking them would only give them power - Censorship of the TRUTH! sort of thing.
later
I've just looked at that one. It seems unbalanced: I mean genuinely unbalanced. Definitely leave it alone. It's nasty, but it's not going to persuade anyone who doesn't already share his mind-set and hatreds, and it could even put some people off.

Trust me, Aubrey, it is but a shadow of its former self! I keep returning to see what else they've cut out.
The public does get fired up about paedophilia and I am sure it was designed to ensure that no parent who came across it would vote Labour again. Some people can be very gullible when it comes to that sort of thing.

I am sure it was designed to ensure that no parent who came across it would vote Labour again. . That was certainly my, eh, sorry, I mean HIS or HER, intention. I would never stoop so low to break the back of the Brit Labour Party . . of course not. P.S. you might be interested in my latest web venture, www.ifyouvoteLabouryourearapist.com
