Did anyone watch this? I found it dull and plodding, and couldn't like the main character one little bit. He annoyed me so much because he seemed to have a 'catching flies' sort of face, mouth half open, blank stare. And the woman he bedded annoyed me too, but I can't really put my finger on why.

I did. My hubby put it on because i want to see War Horse. It's sort of Mills and Boon story set in WW1.

I have a blind prejudice against S Faulks. I'm glad to see that it has been proved correct.

My daughter and my son's girlfriend have both tried to read the book and found it, well, b-o-r-i-n-g.

I read the book when it first came out and didn't enjoy it. I had no empathy with the protagonist - some of the scenes in the trenches stayed with me but the rest was unmemorable. So I didn't watch the film.
I'm not sure I want to see War Horse; I will probably blub.

Yes, same here. I quite like horses (although not to ride on and they can be a bit scarey at times) and I think it it would upset me.

Luckily my foot sank into the muddy ground we were standing on. Otherwise I imagine all the bones would've broken. Hurt like hell, and was a swollen mess of yellow, black, and blue for ages. Can't really blame the horse. I was holding the reins while Jil's daughter was sticking a syringe in her (the horse's) arse.

We saw Warhorse on stage, and loved it. But part of that is marvelling that the puppets are so brilliant.
OH had read the Faulks - she's fascinated by anything to do with either World War - so she watched it, but she said there was too much sex and not enough war. I got bored after a very short time.
