Nah. Just the endorsement of the Queen, I think. (There are places with cathedrals that aren't cities. Don't ask me which, though.) Shrewsbury is one. Shrewsbury is the County Town of Shropshire. The cathedral is Catholic. It isn't a city. Coincidence? Yeah, right. Not that I'm bitter. Newcastle upon Tyne has two cathedrals. The CofE one is an ex-parish-church. The Catholic one is a proper purpose-built cathedral, with yer actual electric altar bells. Not that I'm biased.

Sometimes even Cities get downgraded;
We were a bit miffed recently when Bristol was all over the press as being the first "Cycling Demonstration City". It wasn't. Lancaster (as a City) was one of the first "Cycling Demonstration Towns". Despite legitimately being a City - With a City Council an' all!
Catholic Cathedral here too. Not that you'd notice really. A dark grey Gothic pile with very few distinguishing features. I presume if it was Christian there'd be ten coachloads a day visiting and taking photos a-la Canterbury or Rochester. As it is - it looms over the canal and seems widely ignored.
The place where people are most attracted to is Lancaster Priory which has prime spot slap bang next to the Castle on top of a lump of a hill overlooking the river.

Catholic Cathedral here too... I presume if it was Christian... Catholics are Christians! Well, they like to think so, anyway.

Yes, put the wrong word in there. I was thinking of Canterbury and the C must have stuck!

Yes, put the wrong word in there. I was thinking of Canterbury and the C must have stuck! The word yoiu were searching for was heretic, obviously.
