Is anybody getting a bit excited about the forthcoming games? Frankly, sport isn't my cuppa but I hope it all goes well. I shall be watching the t.v. tomorrow night for the Opening Ceremony, but as for watching anything else, it will be purely accidental - a changing channels on the t.v. sort of thing.
Riot's said this before, and I tend to agree with her: it's a London Olympics. Great if you live in the south-east, but otherwise - meh, as they say. I'd probably feel like that if it was being held in Edinburgh or Cardiff.
Fingers crossed for dry weather though.

I'm really really not cynical, but I'm also not that bothered by this. Some things are nice to see - like a giant shot-put ball "landing" in the tarmac outside the park gate (opposite St Thomas's) - but I'm really not excited, not like I was for the world cup in 1970, say (though if you remember how that turned out you might think I'm just trying to protect myself against disappointment).
I'll probably not watch the opening thing - maybe a bit of it, and I'll see some bits on the news I expect: but that Mud dance they showed from the rehearsals this morning won't mean anything if you weren't alive in Britain in the early 70s.
I can't stick the Usain Bolt Fastest man in the world thing - and doesn't he put on side about it? - considering that he's still slower than most other animals, and a lot of them don't even have to be adjusted for size. So the whole Olympics seems to be a celebration of things that humans are worse at than other animals, and ignoring the things that we're best at.

I remember at Primary School in the seventies being geared up for it all and being taught the history of it and drawing the Olympic Rings all over the place - How sad to think that thanks to the brand Police - all that would be illegal now! .......and therein lies the rub - once it belonged more "To the People". Now it belongs to the Politicians for posturing and the Big Corporates for leeching money out of the populace! Absolutely bloody livid this week that the Radio Times are charging 60p extra because it's got an Olympic supplement in it! Throughout my paltry existence on this Planet I have tended to develop an instant "Anti-" feeling to anything that becomes too popular or anything that receives way more coverage than is necessary. I'm living therefore in the wrong set of decades really - I loathed the raving over Michael Jackson's Thriller Album. I was annoyed by the enforced misery brought upon us by the death of Diana and I'm equally indignant that I'm supposed to luuuuuurrrrvvvveee the Olympics. So sue me. Rant over. Sorry.

Will prolly watch opening ceremony whilst also following on Twitter for the best jokes. I want to see what they are doing with the livestock. I still think that's a wind-up.

Yes! I have visions of rampaging Bulls - cantering calves and shambolic sheep! Perhaps they're concrete. My Step Grandad knew the Dog track stadium that they bulldozed for the Olympic Park well. #trivia

I'm surrprised the animal cruelty people aren't up in arms at the (supposed) use of live cows and sheeps at the Opening Ceremony. Thousands of people, noise, fireworks . . I actually think that the whole live animal thing MUST surely be a wind-up. Surely they're not actually going to do it?

I was walking to a meeting in Govan last night and actually walked by the old Garden Festival site. The bit right at the river is nice, with the bridge built for hte festival and some smart new flats, but there is a huge piece of ground that has just gone to wasteground, a big green area with nothing on it.

The haters are pouring it out on Kim Little (footballer) and also Ryan Giggs because they didn't join in singing the 'National' anthem. Why should they? Scottish athletes are actually being booed by the crowds if I have picked that up right . . . I hope so hard that this will be the last ever Olympics which has a 'Team GB' playing. I am apalled and disgusted by the hate being poured out by English people against Scots and Welsh people, even if they don't want to sing God Save the Queen.

Dunno of any animals that can organise a planet wide meeting of the fastest, strongest, healthiest, fittest, most skilled examples of the entire species. And if I was the fastest man in the world, I'd sure tell people about it.

At the risk of getting my head bitten off, I DO think anybody who has agreed to represent Great Britain (although, shouldn't it be team UK, thinking about it? Or aren't Northern Ireland included?) should sing the National Anthem of Great Britain (the fact that it's also, unfortunately, England's National Anthem is besides the point). If Ryan Giggs and Kim Little felt so strongly that they don't care for a Great Britain, wouldn't it have been a feather in their cap if they'd declined the invitation? At the same time, as Riot knows, I'm all for independence for Scotland if that's what its people want. I'm hoping, also, that England will have a different National Anthem too. Actually, I just assumed Ryan Giggs (and lots of other footballers) didn't remember the words.

There was an official Team GB Press release celebrating the success of the women's football team. The headline on it was (I am reliably told - seeking confirmation) "England on Their Way!". When will those 30% of Scots steadfastly devoted to the Union wake the f up and realise that they're just part of Greater England in the minds of the establishment, and it's not some mythical equal partnership of proud nations. Useful idiots.

Why should they sing the national anthem of another country? They are athletes who want to compete in the Olympics. Legally the way they can do that is through Team GB. I didn't realise that enforced Britishness was a compulsory pre-cursor of these individuals seeking the pinnacle of their athletic careers?

Trubs, why are they doing gymnastics in their dressing gowns?
That seems vaguely inefficient. If not quite lazy.
