Tell you what - If they portrayed joining up with Europe as embracing European culture such as chucking paint bombs at Parliament when you're feeling pissed off at it I reckon everyone would sign up!
For once, the BBC has been paying attention to Europe (Obviously nothing happening in the US right now....) and there's been a lot of discussion on the general unrest - both on PM and WATO in France and previously in Greece. In the French case it is directly a result of the problems with the banks etc, and commentators are saying that it is a direct assault on Capitalism! One or two reports have stated that there is a danger (depending on your point of view) that people are or will be turning to Communism as a hoped release from what they consider the Greed of Capitalism! - Never mind that Communism can also be a "Them and Us" top heavy construct of society. S'funny how people forget!
Just now, someone has pointed out that the eunuchising of unions has led to the Apathetic status of British Society. Frankly - and following recent experiences I don't know why the unions bother existing at all - so afraid of the Corporate juggernaut as they are. However, this fellow then went on to say that as things are going he wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of protest movement being organised in Britain in the not to distant future - depending on which way this "downturn" carries on going.
No wonder the powers that be hope to bring troops out of Iraq - Pretty soon they might need them back at home!
I doubt it. Though you never know!
