AMERICAN TV detectives Starsky and Hutch would have been proud of their British counterparts when they arrested a giant rabbit.
PC Matt Jackson and his partner PC Yasmin Mossadegh were on the late shift when they spotted the white bunny making a bid for freedom.
PC Jackson said: "It was like something out of Alice In Wonderland when this two-feet tall white rabbit started crossing the road. For a moment I thought I was seeing things."
The sighting was outside an Alfa Romeo garage in Northgate, Canterbury at 2.20am on Sunday.
PC Jackson hopped to it to try to capture the furry fugitive before it caused an accident.
He said: "After several failed attempts we removed our coats to try to cover it with a bull-fighting technique. When this failed, kind-hearted pet-loving members of the public who were passing saw us struggling and rushed to our assistance.
"With 10 pairs of hands at the ready, the rabbit's time on the run was coming to an end."
The albino rabbit hopped free for another 200 yards before being apprehended.
PC Jackson added: "Inquiries are ongoing into unconfirmed reports that Bunny had an accomplice called Clyde who assisted in the hare-brained escape idea."
The rabbit, nicknamed Tiny, is now being cared for by staff at Barton Veterinary Hospital in New Dover Road. It is still unknown where the animal came from.
Veterinary nurse Jenny Gooderham said: "I think it must be someone's pet as it is in good condition and is used to being handled.
"We have never had a stray giant rabbit handed in to us before. They are not very common."
