I keep wanting to mention the latest reports that our Nuclear Power Bill is going through the roof. When you read that it's going to be £73 billion you think "Good God!" then you read that it's over 130 years - because that's how long we'll be cleaning up this stuff - it's supposedly not that bad. The report came out a couple of weeks ago about the spiralling costs - I've not put this down because I'm not interested in the pros and cons of each power - but whether or not there's something fishy going on that keep the costs up? (In either industry) After all - we still hear of the Nuclear Power generator companies "generating" profits?
What I find unfathomable though - is when I've researched windpower I still read that it could cost twice as much, and I wonder if someone somewhere is just taking the piss? You stick a few wind turbines in the sea and just look after them - and it's some of the simplest technology going! Even websites explaining it all to children say that once they are set up there are minimal costs involved - unlike that massive clear up expense with nuclear.
Our power bills are set to rise further because of the Nuclear clear up, apparently our water bills will also be rising to help protect water bound wildlife species. My thoughts are not about one power source versus the other, but about the possibility that there is one big cover up going on - that is ultimately costing us - the consumer - the largest amount.
