The Archive Hour on Radio 4 on Saturday, was on the history of radio advertising - it wasn't great on content - jumping from the early days of commercial radio to the usual "Opal Fruits..." nostalgia stuff. One of the arguments put forward at the end was that there just wasn't the imagination in advertising that there used to be. The Double Glazing Company "Planet Windows" have been breaking that mould to a certain extent - putting together jingly radio ads that are amusing, or irritating depending on your point of view re: humour. Their latest one though has created some controversy after one station whose demographic covered a "family audience" refused to play it - though two other stations in the same area have. What do you think? You can listen to it here.Personally - whether unnecessary or not and despite the sheer tackiness of it - I salute whoever came up with that. Someone in touch with their inner space hopper I'm sure, it's a creativity that goes back to the earliest days when people began to see what an opportunity for creativity radio was. This has been stifled over the years by the big Corporates, so much so that if someone like Kenny Everett was starting out today - he wouldn't stand a chance! Another earlier ad of theirs in the same vein, is the second link down on This page

I love it.
And the one based on the 3 little pigs was even better!
