What a cool day! I spent the morning sitting in the Domestic Abuse Court observing stuff - and had some serious thoughts about it all that will no doubt come out on some future thread. Then I met my Mum for lunch. I've not seen her since the Christmas peado fallout, so it was a bit tense, but she just sat and talked about her grandchildren (my neices and nephews) to the point of screaming boredom, so I had to have one large and one small glass of wine to cope. Then I popped back into the office, slagged off my colleagues, did my diary and came home, all with the sun shining. I changed the playlist on my iPod to pure cheese and listened to the following feelgood (but uncool) songs on the way home 'Video Killed the Radio Star' - The Lemonheads (Buggles cover) 'Music is my boyfriend' - CSS 'Sk8er boi' - Avril Lavigne 'Ain't Got no (got a life)' (live) - Nina Simone 'Oxygen' - Willy Mason 'If I had a Million Dollars' - Barenaked Ladies 'Dammit Janet' - Rocky Horrror Picture Show Soundtrack 'April Skies' - Jesus & Mary Chain Top stuff. Sun out. Wine drunk. Cheese on iPod. I feel happy.

And P.S. - I get a thrill every time I look at my new avatar. How cool am I looking here?
(Not actually me, but close enough!)

I love vintage 80's pop-cheese on my not-ipod-but-Sony-walkman-mp3-player. Really great 80's stuff like...Alphaville, A Flock of Seagulls, Thomas Dolby, and some stuff that is so cheesey, so embarassing that if I got run over by a bus, I would use my dying breath to delete it...just to save my family having to live with the stigma. AH Alphaville? That is ringing some distant bell, but I can't remember any of their toons. Link me up my good man and remind me. No excuse for A Flock of Seagulls I'm afraid (except 'Space Age Love Song' which is grrreat.)

I've only heard of two of those, Riotgrrl, but both might go on my "feelgood" list too.
That's the Nina Simone and "video Killed" ...etc but I can't remember who sang it so they sounded as though they'd been locked in a metal safe.

AND WHAT I FORGOT TO SAY was:
The sun being back out means I can once again don my vintage Raybans as I walk about the streets. When I wear my shades I just feel more in control of the world, and now the sun is back out I can have them on from now until about October.
I definitely get that SAD thing, but I think not being able to wear my shades without people laughing at me during the winter definitely makes it worse.

The Lemonheads cover is better. But the Lemonheads cover of Dusty Springfields 'A Different Drum' is one of the best ever covers in the whole history of rock music. Another Lemonheads favourite i'd recommend is 'Hard Drive', which is one of my all time top 10 songs. It basically is about being who you are, where you are, doing what you're doing.

Thanks Moto. Housey, that's the original.

I may have misled you. 'Hard Drive' may be an Evan Dando solo number.
Does anyone actually fancy Evan Dando or is he just the pretty Kurt Cobain?

This is a link to 'Hard Drive' on Youtube. It's an homage rather than the actual Evan Dando video, but I recommend it.

"Big in Japan" - I remember that one! It's all coming back to me Alpha. (So much of the 80s is a blur. If you can remember it, you weren't really there)

Of course, Thomas Dolby is the greatest 80's pop-legend ever.
I would've killed to have seen his "Sole Inhabitant" tour a few years ago.
