We could be being watched!

Social networking sites like Facebook could be monitored by the UK government under proposals to make them keep details of users' contacts.

The Home Office said it was needed to tackle crime gangs and terrorists who might use the sites, but said it would not keep the content of conversations.

Civil liberties campaigners have called the proposal a "snoopers' charter".

S'clyde Police have used sites like Bebo and Facebook to track down and prosecute young men who are in the habit of posing for photos on these sites brandishing swords, knives and other weapons. They also use these sites to track gang activity, find out about planned gang fights, etc.

And a bloody good thing it is too that they do this.

Nothing new about the 'authorities' looking at social networking sites to get info.

I'm pretty sure they probably also monitor message boards; I hope so anyway. I've seen some (Jack Black's springs to mind) which are just so hate-filled and wrong-headed that it's made me realise that 'free speech' should never have become a universal right.

In some ways the Police haven't a clue about message boards. I made a complaint to the Plod about a comment on a BBC HYS board a while ago and they're being given the runabout by the BBC.

There was a good thing on yesterday about some of these cases quite literally being mindless. Brainscans on abused children who fell foul of the law did show expected connections missing, so what might in a normal person result from extreme provocation, in them became uncontrollable much earlier and under provocations unique to their own history (which nobody could guess at of course). In fact it was remarkably Freudian but on a physical level that isn't going to sorted out just by talking therapy.

I'm sure somebody would kick up about Civil Liberties, but it looks to me like a good case for pre-emptive study and treatment of all children discovered to have had an early abusive background. It also makes me wonder about the past (and the old Communist bloc) because much that we consider violent abuse was normal practice then and even if you accept a much more brutal culture living closer to Nature red in tooth and claw, there are still degrees of callousness that can leave us aghast.

The Socialist bloc because traditionally Slavs (and perhaps at one time we, when we think of Biblical swaddling clothes) wrap babies up unable to move for their early months. Who knows what psychological and brain developmental effects that might have? It would freak me out with claustrophobic panic to feel wrapped up like that! They believe that it prevents their limbs from growing bent because the bones are soft - which may well be half correct for all the wrong reasons because their diet was so poor that rickets might well have been endemic.

The estate over the way from me has a road in the middle that forms the middle of a square figure of eight in the walking routine of many owners in the area. We call it "Doggydoo Drive".

That's something that really annoys me. Streets here used to be covered in it. If nothing else owners could train their vermin to sit over a drain. Yet these people who can't be bothered are often the first Dreary Wail wavers to get the green ink flowing about kids making too much noise in the bus shelter or leaving chewing gum everywhere or how they moved to the country and find they have to put up with nasty smells from farms and WHY WON'T THE USELESS GOVERNMENT DO SOMETHING (or preferably somebody)
