I know it's an oldie, but it's still a goodie. Seeing as we've had a fair few new members recently, it's always good to have these 'getting-to-know-you' type threads. (Or it is if people bother to reply to them! ;D) Where did you get the name you use on this MB? What inspired it and why? (Jean & Patrick . . . maybe you two can sit this one out . . . unless . . )

I chose "motorist" originally for the BBC boards, when Ken Livingstone got in as Mayor of London and started targetting them. I decided to be his nemesis lol!
Now I have no longer have a car, I don't live in London anymore, but most peeps I still converse with still know me by that name. I occasionally pick a different one if a board's theme suggests one to me, but have gotten used to being "moto" (or motto in Hoolyspeak)

i chose costal cos when i first joined MB's many many moons ago on the BBC football messageboards of old, i will admit after reading them for a long time and not joining in,i soon realised they were populated by dim-witted morons, in general, and as such i decided to participate in a very piss- takey way, generally taking the mickey and ribbing the other posters thats rib-bing...3. Informal The act or an instance of joking or teasing. so i opted for 'costal' Adj. 1. costal - of or relating to or near a rib i know that is a bit like working out the clues on 80s gameshow 3-2-1 but there you ave it

I was posting away happily on JSG one day about, hmm, maybe 2 years ago?, when Patrick rudely interjected and said he was sick of me because I sounded like an estate agent and would I please for the love of humanity get a different poster name.
He suggested ''Fluffy Trubbles''.
I shortened it.
I thought he was quite nice in those days, little realising that he had an uber-plan to make the whole internet fluffy.
The fiend.

I thought I called you Scruffy Trubbles!
I'm all embarrassed now. I'm waiting for the day you break away from it and hurl it back in my face in a fit of pique!
I won't mind, honest <sniff> <blowwwww>

I'm Makatt on most boards as when I joined the Beeb boards, many, many moons ago, we had a cat and that was a mocking name my OH gave me. We don't have her anymore, sadly, but the name stuck.
Sometimes I feel like a change. Can't think why I went for Percyplum other than someone commenting a while ago that I had a plummy-sounding voice! (Which I don't, really...)

Just made it up when I joined the BBC "Today" board...it sounded politically incorrect, and not very BBCish at all - I sort of stuck with it for political type of boards where people knew me from the BBC...it's not my occupation or anything. My original choice was "A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre Of The Ultraworld" but it didn't fit most boards and was a bit of a bugger to type when logging on. AH

When I first joined a message board about 3 years ago (I think) I couldn't think of a name, my middle un was with me and suggested Coffeepot as I used to drink a lot of coffee

Mine is a nickname I got given in primary school. Mr Hake my form teacher took to calling me this, and it stuck until I left there. Believe me it was ironic!!! Only close family and friends know this, so no blabbing please.

On the Beeb boards I was Fortyniner for a long time. I chose it because it seemed gender neutral and kind of relevant to me, but I was almost immediately asked if my real name was Clemetine. It isn't! Then I kept being mistaken for one of those fast seasick-making racing dinghies .... or a beer.
So I became Skylark, except on the boards with an unsuitable habitat (like Stub Crouch), where I morph into something else.

I think Patrick was "Boris" at one point too That was my original - Or - it was when I'd deleted my account (to see what happened when you pressed the button) and Used that to start with. I had another account on BBC which was "The Almighty God" for a while - had some fun with that! I'm surprised they let me get away with it! I was just boring old Patrick on the Beeb back to - must be 2001/2.

did everyone start on the bbc? seems most people did- certainly all the people i can think of from MB's began on the BBC boards... weird! I think most people who use the BBC boards eventually feel that they are grown up enough to actually speak their mind without the crazed cencorship of the BBC, so they move on to boards where people are actually given a certain level of free speech. "arse, poo, fart, hairy balls!" Try saying that on 5Live. AH
