For "Ex Prime Minister" read "Nutter" to paraphrase the title of Jasper Carrot's old joke. As prime minister, he famously "didn't do God" but, having left office, Tony Blair is travelling the world to launch his new Faith Foundation. The BBC has had exclusive access to the foundation's early work.
On a cold winter's day in New Haven, Connecticut, Tony Blair is preparing for a new challenge – teaching.
His new inter-faith foundation has linked with Yale University and launched a new course, on Faith and Globalisation. As we walk to the seminar, surrounded by photographers and tight security, the former prime minister tells me why he has entered the classroom: "If globalisation is a force pushing people together, does religion become a force pulling people apart? "In the light of what's going on in the world, they are important themes to explore." [/i]

[ Well, he has a point there at least. The only way I presume he means that Globalisation is bringing people together is through communication - Otherwise I would say it's the opposite. As for religion separating people - well - that's been going on for thousands of years hasn't it? Just ask Henry VIII! There was a programme on R4 about his dealings tonight and I just cannot work him out. He does seem to go about his business as if any effect he has on any situation has nothing to do with him at all! His latest wheeze is to use his Faith Foundation to help rid Africa of Malaria! Nurses will be trained to go unto the villages and innoculate people! He's giving lectures at Yale University to "Diverse" Groups. I did wonder at one point in the programme if he is trying to cleanse himself of his sins in the Political World - but if he is the spiritual man that he professes to be - there appears to be no soul there whatsoever! When I'm playing in the bath - OK, more when I was little - not so much now - Oh, all right sometimes now - I'd take an empty shampoo bottle and pretend it's a foam eating monster! and it slides through the water to the big ball of bubbles and start eating it! and get's fuller and fuller until it's sick! Blair is a bit like that - he's skating across the surface of the planet sucking up fluffy foam - but never actually getting his hands dirty. The other thing that gets me is - the man was a Lawyer by trade - but because of the Prime Minister bit (and presumably the Irish thing) he now thinks he can solve the worlds problems. More importantly though - aside from just "converting" to the Catholic Faith - where else has he had religious training to be able to set up the organisation that he has? Did he get himself an Ordination off the Internet or something?
