Obama: Bush aides may be prosecuted over torture

This waterboarding thing is beginning to snowball!

Senior members of the Bush administration who approved the use of waterboarding and other harsh interrogation measures could face prosecution, Barack Obama said today, in a surprise about-turn by the president.

He said his attorney general, Eric Holder, was conducting an investigation and the final decision rested with him.

Have just noticed; In the middle column on that page there's a link to a poll as to whether the inquiry into "waterboarding" should be held and the people responsible be prosecuted. It being a Grauniad poll the verdict is an 60% majority for the yes crowd

I'm not sure why justice department lawyers should be included. They were asked whether certain procedures were lawful, and presumably gave thier interpretation of the law. Or is there a suspicion they had not acted in good faith?
