Imagine if all elections were like this, with live internet updates of voting. That might make things interesting. I couldn't bear the tension/excitement. I was watching the live 'ceefax type' updates of the last down-to-the-wire election here last time because I was too much of a wreck to go up to the count - where they were also freaking out, the eventual winner even tried to concede before the count was over. |

Oh I remember with nostalgic joy the night of the Scottish Parliament elections when the SNP sort-of won, sitting in the old JSG chatroom with the lovely Trubs and Betty (back before she was evil, obv.) drunk as a skunk on my win-lose-or-draw bottle of Bowmore, shouting the results out to the two of them as they came in. WE WON GOVAN. Oh that was such a good point. The lovely ladies stayed with me until 4 or 5 in the morning that night. But, in fact, the result didn't become clear until late afternoon the next day, when I'd started drinking again, and my cognitive abilities were getting a bit compromised. Oh what a night!!! |

We are all clear that this is just to win the nomination right? It doesn't make him an MEP. He then has to pony up the deposit (£1k??) to actually stand, and then he gets beaten like a red-headed stepchild by the SNP. I'm happy to celebrate SWL's 'victory' so long as we're all clear on these crucial issues . . . |

Deposit paid by Jury Team. Only 2 of the 6 current Euro MPs are SNP - elected when the SNP were on a high last time.
People are so sick and tired of the lot of them, I reckon I'm going to be the one doing the spanking.

What's the votes total needed to get the deposit back? Off the top of my head - 5%. But I'd need to check. Edited to add: The deposit is £5k, and the amount of votes you need to retain it is a fortieth . . .which is 4% |
