I really wish he wouldn't do that 'smiley' thing. It's not him; it just looks unnatural.
He is what he is - a dour Scot. If he had shown leadership and authority after taking over from Blair he would be cruising to a general election victory. Problem is he showed neither, and has got himself involved in a dreadful series of cock-ups and U-turns.
Smiling more isn't really going to solve his problems.

I guess that`s what a diet of haggis and bagpipes does for one??

He is what he is - a dour Scot I guess that`s what a diet of haggis and bagpipes does for one?? Bagpipes are the instrument of the tribal lands in the North of Scotland and are in no way representative of the multi-ethnic Scottish culture. As a Fifer, bagpipes will have no special resonance for Brown. (ditto tartan, kilts, and the other aspects of northern tribal culture which the ignorant assume represents the culture of all Scotland.) Haggis, of course, was eaten widely in rural areas, particularly the lowlands, so may be of more relevance to Brown. More resonant still should be capitalism, given that Fife is the birthplace of Adam Smith. Of course, tartan, bagpipes and that kind of thing would have had no place in Smith's daily life as they are not relevant to his culture.
