Not to be bowled over and frantically excited about the triumphant return of our Olympic bods?
Then I'm guilty as charged Guv'nor!

I'm usually a big fan of jingoism, but I haven't even watched one second of the Olympics, so I'll be buggered if I will be watching any triumphant return of the athletes...athletics is dull city. >thumbs down<

I got a little excited about the Olympics but homecomings never do much for me. The Team GB thing was/is crappy though.

I've heard it all now - somewhere or other is now naming their swimming pool after the medal winner who used to swim there! OK, nice gesture - but couldn't they wait until she's a bit older and dedicated a lifetime training other children to be Olympic medal winners too? What happens if someone else from there does really well in the next lot of Olympics? That'll be embarrassing!

Four years ago I happened to be in Tunbridge Wells (on a course) when Kelly Holmes made her return to her home town, bearing medals. I didn't see any sign of her or her bus so gave up waiting, but it was a struggle to walk down the pavements, which were packed with people.
Now, I know Tunbridge Wells is the epitome of upper-middle class England, but I only saw two non-white faces among a crowd of thousands. When I have made this remark to others, they said "and what is that supposed to mean?" and I don't know.
But is standing for hours waiting to wave a little flag at someone you will see briefly, from a distance, a very Anglo-Saxon quirk?

Clearly not, as they did it in Edinburgh for 'Team Scotia' (Chris Hoy and the rest of the Scottish medal winners.)

Well, I'd only just left TW four years ago! - and it wasn't as bad as all that - in the intervening period since I left, I hear they've been over-run with thousands of Poles!
.......but we don't do that sort of thread here! ;D
The real disappointment for TW must have been the Tour de France - four hours wait for about five seconds of blurry bums on bikes! Not only that - but the local paper was full of crap about the historic town being chosen for the route and all the publicity it would get from it and it took ITV all of about a minute's coverage and that was it! Ha ha!
