Just googled it and apparently spoilt is used more in the UK. Spoiled is used more in the USA.

Either's correct, farmer - like spelt and spelled, learnt and learned.
I didn't know about the US/UK distinction, though.

I would probably only use "spoilt" as an adjectective as in "we have a spoilt dog."
It was Jack who spoiled him though!

Trouble is - then you'll get some clever dick come along and say; "What about Boilt and Boiled?"

We've lost some of these phonetic spellings. That's why Americans prefer the ~ed form I think - they pronounce it that way. You won't find Dropt any more, but you will find Leapt and Kept. There are others similiar but the only one I know where the past participle has developed two pronunciations and spellings is Learnt and Learned usually spelt Learnéd

Jean- you are being missed ;
Quote - Big T It might seem small-minded, even trivial, to talk of such things whilst events of momentous political importance are happening all around us, But I think that I must mention this.
It appears that Jean has finally packed her portmanteau with her collection of dusty dictionaries and leather-bound grammatical guides and left for sunnier shores. I honestly thought that her going would leave an empty feeling in my stomach , a longing for those golden moments of having my spelling mistakes and grammatical solecisms corrected, those younger days of a light titillating banter spiced with barbed insinuations and playful character assasination. But no! She has gone and that is that! Rather like the departure of dear Mr Blair, not a surface ripple remains to remind us of their once hallowed presence. Why is that I wonder? Is it perhaps because all I have to do to have her tiny size-4 plimpsolls pattering back her rotund form to my reluctant arms is to offer one Toad sufficient pecuniary advantage to cast his literary gems once more on these far shores? Already I have contacted this superman of the written word and he has indicated that it is firmly beneath his principles to accept £1 per word for contributions here. But his declination was so slyly worded as for me to infer that his principles may not be so elevated as to decline an offer of £1.20 per word. So should I get bored beyond redemption then I may lighten my environment by getting Vanya to contribute here once more (I do feel sure that he is getting a little bored with that old reactionary Exco on the green board called, I believe, MO). Then once more shall we hear the tinkling bell of Jean's antiquated and basketed tricycle as she makes her way back, oblivious of the carnage she is causing on th A38, to her true home, here, and true love, Vanya.

But the length of Piffle's recent posts, here and elsewhere, has been such that I doubt if even BT could afford the £1.20 a word he surmises it would require to lure Piffle back to WL. But we shall see.

So long as you're sure he's a man I shall gratefully rely on his protection.
Do you think he'll pay for me to stay at home with the children as well?
