This week's review - Must See TV : The Force - More 4. Fly-on-the-wall documentary series following the Hampshire Constabulary and their various departments and investigations. No stars, no wasting time on getting to know officers' homelife sob stories, no comedy, just a peek into how investigations work. Intelligent, no-nonsense film making. www.channel4.com/programmes/the-force/episode-guide/series-1/episode-1 Serial Offender of the Week (TV):Emma BBC1 & 2 Pretty dresses modelled by annoying actors saying stupid lines and not tripping over the lovely furniture. I even began to hate Knightley. ZZzzzz TVLife - BBC1 & 2 I've recorded it and haven't watched one minute. Nature Attenborough Reptiles Plants Blah Blah Blah Who Cares. Sound as a Pound Radio: Archive on 4 - Ken Campbell. (Radio 4, of course, where else?!) www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00nhny6Faultless production, interesting content. I liked it so much I listened twice. Everyone should be a bit more Ken Campbell and a little less Barbara Woodhouse. The world would be a more interesting place. Fright Night:The Bee Gees on Strictly Come Dancing. W. T. F.

I was thinking of giving The Force a look. I'm usually allergic to anything like that - but when it's done properly.......
Ken Campbell - fantastically mad and talented and not a little scary! Thanks for the reminder.
I like things in the 'hands off' style of doc making - like the "Storyville" series and "One Life" and their predecessors. Where the people tell the story and there is rarely an annoying interviewer or high as a kite narrator saying stupid things.
New Series of t the new "The Family" might be worth a look too. That programme (provided they haven't dumbed it down) is Good Old Fashioned Channel 4 stuff. When it was all Arty and not quite so Yoof-ey.

Yep, Patrick, The Force is Storyville standard, I think you'll like it.
Channel 4 have got a bit better recently. The True Stories series on More 4 is fantastic.

Victoria Wood is back with a Chrimbo special! It includes an visit to Bo Beaumont - the highly acclaimed star of Acorn Antiques (Mrs Overall) Another treat on the 29th is an eveing dedicated to June Whitfield - including (how could you resist!) An episode of Terry and June! Bless. Sad to see that only Sky has a Jaques Tati film this year, time was when it was one of Channel Four's Christmas traditions. Sky though? <shiver!> Couldn't see Casablanca or My Fair Lady in the schedules either. If you see them let me know.

I just hope they put "Meet Me In St. Louis" on this Christmas. I never fail to get a lump in my throat at this one:

Sesley, yes. It's one of Mr. E's favourites. He was disgusted recently to learn that they've had the temerity to fanny around with it and do it in colour.

The colour looks a bit better than they way they used to do it, though it's still a disgusting idea.
BBC2 have a season of Noir films on over Christmas, all starting pretty late.

I wait for the day when they try to foist a colour Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers film on me. Although, to be fair, their last one was in colour, but it doesn't count because it wasn't made in the 1930s.
Having said that, I'd love to know the colour of all those fabulous dresses that Ginger wore.

Pretty good. One of its best features being that Clarkson isn't in it. Wistful Comment Department: It would've made a great Charades subject. Too late now.The Day of the Triffids was really dire. Shame, because the book is excellent.

Didn't watch the remake, the original 6 part BBC series with John Duttine is excellent though, I bought it on DVD few years ago. AH

I watched that boat going down that river tonight - and I just wanted to be on it! Or on one. The ultimate freedom! The ultimate "Life? You can't touch me". I'd sell up everything I'd have tomorrow if the right boat came along. - With somewhere to moor it that was cheap to live on - and that would be impossible!

What did you think of the Shannon One Designs? They were the boats in the slow drift race.

And back on to TV in general: anyone watching Celebrity Mastermind? I am catching up on it, I have got as far as the Stuart Maconie episode. That guy with the Oscar special subject was a bit rubbish - we know this because I beat him not only in his general knowledge but in his subject. And as for the guy who picked motorways...
