Tonight we will be mainly having ravioli with a tomato/chorizo sauce followed by apple and blackberry crumble.
And then we will fall asleep on the sofa, unable to move.

First stew of the "Winter" tonight. Two chopped up bacon chops providing the 'meat' of it. I was very tempted to pick up a bottle of the first of the 'Winter' whisky today with how damp it is. Well, I say Damp - I think we'll be up for some permanent flood warnings this week - and to stave off the dampness, the heating's gone on. The rain is thundering against the windows and the wind is rattling round. How funny it is that the memory of warm sunshine fades extraordinarily quickly once the rain sets in.
I see it's even lightly raining in Cyprus this week - though only showers and it's 32 degrees otherwise!

And I don't eat in between meals very much.
Plus I look after two 3-year-olds two days a week.

Now this is why I like this board. From food to corsets!
Corsets were definitely The Thing a few years back (well, in the 50s) and my mum was never seen in public without wearing one. I've often thought that it would have been great to wear corsets or stays like in Victorian times. It didn't matter if you had a few lumps and bumps -once it was all nipped in, nobody knew. On the other hand, bloody uncomfortable.

My Nan said she wore her corset for a back problem she had. To 'support' it. Though one can't help wonder if it wasn't the corset that caused it in the first place!

We'll be having Hake tonight. I will friy it for a little while with butter, red onions and garlic. Then stick it in the oven after that, wrapped in foil with the juices.

My mum had this thing about "keeping your kidneys warm". God knows how they could have got cold, considering they are tucked well inside your body. My nan, on the other hand, was quite slim and corsets didn't feature much, but I do remember her telling me how she used to wear Hobble Skirts. She was born in 1899 so I guess she would have been a teenager at the time of that fashion. I still have the button hook that she used to do up her boots. Talk about a page out of history! I remember wearing a liberty bodice when I was a little girl Jeez, I feel old.

my dad used to wear a corset back in the 80s, cos of his bad back. i remember coming home from school one day to find my dad hanging upside down from the rafters of the garage, wearing a pair of ice skates with rope looped through the blades and around the rafters which my mum had used to hoist him up there, she was just standing there holding the rope whilst he hung there upside down. it was apparantly in effort to fix his bad back although it could have been some kinky thing that i'd inadvertantly interupted i suppose.

Tonight it will be M & S Cornish pasties. Not tried them before so I will report back.
There used to be (still might be for all I know) a shop in Tintagel, Cornwall, where they sold the best pasties you've ever tasted. They were worth driving down to Cornwall for.
There's a place in Salcombe that does very nice pasties, but not quite as good as the Tintagel ones. Probably because Salcombe is in Devon.

Brains Faggots - I know they're not made of brains (that being the name of the company) but it sounds like they are.
Well, I have to tell you that the Cornish pasties were effing awful. They had bits of gristle in and the potato, onion and swede were all mushy. Bleughhhh! Unusual for M & S because their stuff is usually o.k. Won't buy them again.

I think they're called Mr Brain's Faggots now. (We'd really get into trouble talking about them on BitBOT - I had it bad enough when I said I was going out for a fag).
I'm on my own for the weekend from tomorrow, so on my way home from Dialysis I'm going to the chip shop for a treat (I should be ok for potassium, that soon afyer dialysis). I'll bet they turn out to be manky, though.

I liked Brain's Faggots. It's not something you go out of your way to admit though! Bit of mashed potato - lovely! Best Beloved thinks they're disgusting though so I haven't had them since 1992 probably. That and the fact that for some reason you feel a bit embarrassed buying them!
