Turkey in the oven and half an hour until the real cooking proper starts, so I'm chilling out and logging on.
Happy Christmas or whatever to all the Stubbies. I hope to see many and more of you face-to-face in 2011.

Yes, I'll drink to that. But only after I've taken the dog out!
Merry Christmas everyone.

Turkey's not that nice really, is it?
It's kind of bland and blah.
The chippolatas and the stuffing and that were far nicer than the bird itself.
Still, we managed a whole 3 hours of togetherness over dinner and a film, then everyone returned to their separate lives, but in a happy way. We don't need to get out the board games to be a family. We just are, but we're all quite individualistic. So QOTT is up in her bed (she is so tired at the moment obviousyl), Uberteen is sitting on one side of the couch/chaise online, I'm at the other, and Gothboy is in the middle watching Coronation Street.
We're happy in our own way, and we refuse to force ourselves to be happy in some other way contrived for us. I think.

It's Boxing Day here, 8.20 am as I type. I am girding my loins metaphorically so that I can gird them literally: I am psyching myself up to go to the sales to stock up on knickers. Wish me luck.

I've never tried The Sales on "B" Day. I think the alcoholic stupor that is Christmas just tends to leave one in limbo for days!. I remember the TV news years ago showing hundreds of people straining at the doors of places to get in - There was always a famous battle for the china department at one store in London they'd always report on where most of it seemed to get trampled underfoot in the rush!

Eff me, I've had a tiring day! We had turkey and roast sirloin and the beef was not very good. My butcher will hear of this. It cost me quite a bit and I was furious that it wasn't very tender. I cooked it just like I always do and it always turns out fine. I have to confess that it was English beef and not Scottish (which is the best). When my butcher said it was English I started to have my doubts. Anyway, in future I think Sainsbury's will get my custom when I'm buying beef, sad to say.
My daughter, s-i-l and two grandchildren were over, plus my aged aunt and uncle - four generations together. We all enjoyed ourselves and the kids totally believe in Father Christmas, which is lovely. Unfortunately, now that Christmas is over my daughter won't be able to threaten them with 'Father Christmas won't leave you any presents, only brussels sprouts and lumps of coal, if you're naughty. By the way, the Mr. Potato Head was the hit of the day for some strange reason. I found his teeth under the sofa after they'd gone home.
So Boxing Day will be very restful, with just Mr. E. and me to dinner, then over his mum's for tea and the evening. She's 81 and like a little whippet, always insisting that she entertain on Boxing Day. The rest of the family will be there, so a nice chatty time hopefully.

I must be mental. I went to the sales and bought some knickers and two bras that I could have got at any other sale.

I was telling a friend about our dry-cured, locally produced 1.8kg ham for £17.50 and a little later he mentioned buying one from a 'special offer' in the Sunday Times that cost £85!!! He didn't mention the weight but I think it was still on the bone. Still, think I'll stick with ours! Ham Salad today! Ham Egg and Chips tomorrow and probably a stew after that!

I have to confess that it was English beef and not Scottish (which is the best). I am very sorry to hear that, ev - especially if your butcher loses out to Sainsbury's. I am sure English beef is not inferior to Scottish, so long as it's hung properly. I get Welsh Black Beef from the Farmers' Market and it's excellent. Yesterday we had turkey cooked by OH's cousin, but so many different sorts of stuffing, veg, bacon, sausages, bread sauce etc. etc. that you wouldn't have noticed if it hadn't been up to scratch, frankly.

I am very sorry to hear that, ev - especially if your butcher loses out to Sainsbury's. My guess is that it will never happen again once Ev has implemented the "my butcher will hear of this" clause. At this point I admit to feeling a certain sympathy for the poor miscreant. (I know -- I'm just a soft lefty liberal bleeding-heart Guardian-reading do-gooder. I blame nature and nurture.) There are two otherwise excellent butchers in Welshpool, especially if you're wanting sheep parts, yet neither sells mutton (an essential ingredient of proper Scotch broth, never mind Irish stew) unless one orders it. Bah. Humbug.

Happy Yuletide everyone and I hope you are all recovered from Christmas. This morning, the snow has gone - THANK SANTA - and that's the best present anyone could get. The little believer-twins were most excited about the umbrellas that Santa left them. Ummbrellas. Who says children are spoiled these days? Well, whoever it is is wrong.

Sometimes the simplest gifts are the best. Just ask Hoodoo McFigginSeriously though (folks), I remember getting a lot more satisfaction out of the more ordinary gift than some of the more expensive or complicated stuff.
