www.internationalwomensday.com/ I got into the spirit of things by ordering a pair of Loake "Royal" burgandy brogues (surely the ultimate show of solidarity with the sistas is buying shoes...right?). I also tried to view them as human beans and not leer at the pretty ones today - How did you celebrate this occasion? AH

I mark it by making snidey comments on other people's facebook statuses.
It is also Pancake day (if you're Catholic).
It is also my bro's birthday. I sent him a card but he hasn't got it yet.

AH I really did try to curb the old flashing activities today, but the tourist information office rang and it turns out that they'd had complaints I wasn't on duty in the subway. No rest for the wicked. Voluntary work. It's the heart and soul and ..er.. things of the Big Society.

I celebrated International women's day by doing a fecking great pile of ironing. Later on, my grandchildren paid me a visit (together with my daughter) and I let them play on my "Pee-ooter" (computer). Then I messed around on eBay for a while, then I got Mr. E's tea.

I think Shrove Tuesday and Lent is in the Anglican calendar too. Anglican, Catholic - a difference in management, not in belief. It's like Lidl and Aldi. And yet both are excellent shops. The analogy fails after that point. Admit it, Riot — it's because there's no offal in a pancake. I'll be in Holland next week — the land of the giant pancake — pannekoek. And the tiny one — poffertje.

And yet both are excellent shops. The analogy fails after that point... Are you sure 'after' was the word you wanted?

One for Weyland: Why Shrove Tuesday? Why the past tense? It's a rare relic of the future past insubstantive passive tense-mood. On the day after – Ash Wednesday – the plan is to be shriven, by the Grace of God, amen. Hope that's clear.

We went to see Black Swan, which showed Natalie Portman indulging in lesbian sex, many orgasms, stabbing frenzies and terrible transformations. I could mention all the serious stuff after that, but I think Hooly would be sold on the film just from those points ;D

You want everything, you do Angela Rippon is on FiveLive as I type. She's a ballet expert. She says Black Swan is – and I quote – "Silly".

Has it got anything to do with Juvenal's rara avis in terris, nigroque simillima cygno?
