What sets us apartrt form other countrys is our right to question without fear. Which countries would that be, Sez? North Korea, for instance? Syria? Didn't we do well? The acting Met Chief Commissioner said something like this on FiveLive within the last hour: "The hospitals haven't filled up. This is the only country in the world where that could happen." ...the list of people they caught were not poor down and outs,but people employed !!in jobs like school teachers... It's probably classist to point this out, but he was a teaching assistant not a schoolteacher. So I won't point it out. Nor the bit about Waterstone's being the only unlooted shop amidst one looting spree. |

Toxteth again. Toxteth is nextdoor to Aigburth, where Jean lives. I've texted her, but no reply yet. I know she was going to London and elsewhere some time soon, but don't know when. STOP PRESS: Yes, she's in London, and OK. Thank you, Weyland, for your concern. I note that no-one else seems remotely interested in my possible fate. On Monday evening I was in a quite expensive restaurant in Islington with the friend I was staying with and only heard later that a restaurant in Notting Hill was invaded and diners had had their jewelry and phones stolen. We were just not posh enough I guess. We heard sirens all night, but always going somewhere else. The rioting in Liverpool was small beer. It was much worse in Manchester. A poster elsewhere writes that it is all (or nearly all) down to feminism. |
