Stewart Lee (Comedy God) on Ricky Gervais: Does comic 'bravery' go hand in hand with being offensive and stupid? It's a mistake to think a comedian is validated because their material is perceived as being 'brave'....
A good read.

Garrow's Law is back! At last something (apart from Wallander) worth watching again. 21:00 on BBC1.
Ev: Before that on C5 is The Great Escape, starring a Triumph motorcycle! And some other actors.

I like Garrow's law! Apart from Garrow, don't particularly like him. Or Lady Sarah, she's very annoying, and sometimes it's a bit dull. So apart from the main characters and the plots, I like it. Actually, I like Alun Armstrong and that's about it. As for Life's Too Short - sigh - only really worth watching for the cameos. Liam Neeson's was superb.

Just watched the first episode - I tend to agree.
It looks as if Gervais himself has got past the stage where he's prepared to allow himself to be made fun of.

The first series of Garrow was, I thought, excellent. (This sound familiar, Ev?) But last week's episode was shyte. I'll keep watching, but it had better get back up to speed. Alun Armstrong cannot put a foot wrong. He's a Geordie. (My apologies for the tautology.) Life's too short to be watching Life's Too Short. And yesterday's Rev was embarrassingly tacky. Bring back Star Trek, I say, blended with Blake's Seven and starring Bill Bailey, Sarah Millican, John Bishop, Rebecca Front, and Arabella Weir (yummy!).

I preferred Silk - with Maxine Peak - that was something worth looking forward to & it had better be getting a second series. At least we have a new Sherlock on its way!

In fact in the second episode he has Johnny Depp reading out a list of anti-Gervais jokes from his Blackberry. I think what has happened is that the Brent character's mixture of awkwardness and cringe-making activity is really just a side of Gervais himself - Gervais writ large maybe - and he's written some more material for that Brent/Gervais person but cannot perform it as Brent anymore, and no one else can perform it either. The same thing happened to Woody Allen whose main character is usually just Woody Allen and only Woody can play it. He needs a show like Seinfeld or Gary Shandling or Larry Sanders.

I've always fancied Maxine Peake...something about her.

Keep an eye out for a repeat soon because a second series was rumoured. It's barristers and the ins and outs of chambers and so on. It got mixed reviews based on the fact that something called North Square was better but as I never watched North Square I just loved it. Great cast.

Oh there's so much that's gone on in this thread over the past week! I've been away (see different thread with photos - soon to be on line). I've not caught up with Rev yet and I'll be vair upset if it's crap. Trubbs, I missed The Great Escape, but thanks for telling me. Actually, I know it almost scene for scene, together with dialogue. And Steve on that bike -

I really dislike comedies where the audience is expected to laugh at (rather than with) characters, and "Life's Too Short" and "Rev" fall into that category....the former more than the latter.

Newsflash: V v important news: I laughed at this week's Life's Too Short! a couple of times!! & not really at the the celebrity cameo! I think it's bordering on funny. Maybe we were over saturated with 'funny' clips leading to supposedly funny moments becoming unfunny moments. As the series progresses there shall be more laughs because there are less clips. Also, the lady assistant character is v funny.

Then on that recommendation I shall give it 10 minutes of the very precious time I have left on this Earth.
10 minutes...and no more.
