Back on topic. It was interesting to hear that we haven't quite got a completely fair PR system in place in the Euro voting. Apparently if we totted votes up as with the German system of counting then Parties that attained 2 MEP's under our system would have gained 8 MEP's under theirs.
8 sounds a little more proportionate somehow?

Zanu-Liebour got arse-raped last night. Congrats to Nick Griffin as well...gotta love democracy, gotta love the leftists reaction to democracy even more, they fucking hate it when they don't get the "right" result...the BBC presenters all looked sick, and I thought that Polly Tonby or whatever she is called was going to throw a fit. At least we do get to send two Jean! As for Nick Griffin - sorry Alph, but every single photo I've seen of him throughout this - he looks 'psychologically damaged,'* to put it politely. Mind you - worth digging out Osborne's interview with John Humphrys this morning as he points out to the boy that the Tories have got into bed with some very strange people in Europe! Absolutely bonkers by the sound of it! *More raving loony than a Monster Raving Loony Member to put it another way!

Patrick, if looks are important, why don't we beg the dashing Mr Blair to come back, he was a wonderful PM, he did us proud (or did he just do us?)
Hell, at least nasty Nick (tm) he was legally elected, unlike our current PM and deputy PM.

AH Have to say I agree with you Alpha. Just seen the news report about Nick Griffin being pelted with eggs. Whether you support his views is neither here nor there.....either you believe in free speech and democracy or you don't. I say God save us from the BNP.....but equally God save us from the left wing loonies who think they should decide who we can vote for.

It was pure protest vote blaming the incumbent government for all ills but primarily those foisted on the rest of the world by US plutocrats. The proof of that is the massive swing here to Labour in both council and European elections. Obviously there is no huge difference in outlook between Britain and Ireland although the first is generally more right-wing, the second left-wing in outlook. The big similarity is that in both cases the established government took a hammering. Even the Greens copped it for their acquiescence as minor coalition partners.
Britain probably preferred the BNP over Liberal paradoxically because the Liberals have made themselves recognised as part of a three-party Establishment. Labour occupies that position here in reality but in attitude are still felt as outsiders. Besides, the BNP equivalent is Sinn Fein and though they have their followers, PR puts them last choice for anybody else. Glad to see that Joe Higgins got in for the Socialists. There don't seem to have been any others ....
