He is Marcus Tullius CiceroRobert Harris's Imperium is an excellent account of his early political career (and it's in English). I haven't yet read Harris's Lustrum, which continues the story, and I'm a bit nervous, as my hero is about to do some morally dubious things.

I feel quite ashamed of just being CJ Cregg from the West Wing now . . .

I just went out to change the photo and have Mr Hoppy in the snow - but would he stay upright!? (I think he's been drinkning y'know).

I want your avatar to change with the seasons, showing Mr Hoppy in all kinds of situations. I am looking forward to seeing him with a knotted hanky on his head in July.

I don't understand why everyone doesn't just take a photo of themselves and use that as their avatar - like I do.

If only we had a special board just for themed photo threads...then we could have an entire set of threads with weekly Mr Hoppy challenges. Mr Hoppy in the Spring, Mr Hoppy goes on Holiday, Mr Hoppy does Dallas...

What a relief - until I read back I thought she was talking about me then. An understandable mistake, I'm sure you'll agree. You do have an excessively romantic image of me Trubs, and my girlfriends - I'm not quite so debonair, and they're nowhere near as fluffy. No, it was this, but I've evidently I've lost the knack of juggling them about. Something to do with touching up that bit, wiggling this bit, pressing such and such a button, sticking something in there, then sitting back in satisfaction. But I'm getting old now, you'll have to do it yourselves. I can't make pictures appear anymore either. Damn! I thought that was you yourself Riot. I hate it when my compliments go to waste like that, and with every birthday that passes it happens more often. All that effort for nothing. It's exhausting being nice like that. Sadly, that's not Cicero, Jean, it's a modern-day counterpart, Larry Flynt. A common error, unless you're in the know. It's your incessant demands for me to be morally dubious. That's exhausting too.

If you are refusing to contribute to a thread unless it's got your name in the title, sorry, but I'm afraid we don't cater for the kinkier fetishes here, Nick. (Jean's fetish for being more educated than the rest of us aside.)

Speak for yourself. She didn't even recognise Larry Flynt.

I make no claims at all (she said humbly).
Except in respect to Nick, than whom I know more about almost anything you care to mention.

Riot! Shame on you. The PC phrase these days is "educationally challenged". Errrm...Isn't it?

Very poor grammar, Jean, you really must try harder. This should be:
Except in respect to Nick, about whom I know more than almost anything you care to mention.
And you promised not to mention that. Ever.
