YEP.. keeps the old teethys on the top of their game too.. its like going to the gym for teeth. I stopped off at a boozer in Shepherds Bush of a sunny day in June, about 17:00, with my "kids" and their mother, on the way back to the digs after a hard day's touristing. Thought we'd have a refreshing beverage and a sandwich or two. All they had in the place was porky scratchings. Not even crisps. We went to the Thai takeaway instead. Closed. Ended up phoning for delivery from an Indian place. Order arrived late and incomplete. And yet I'm still coming back to London next week. I must be a bleedin' masochist. (To be fair, the vindaloo was excellent.)

We had a roast chicken on Sunday and I boiled the remains up this afternoon, stripped the carcass and dropped in some onions, carrots, sweet potato, potatoes, celeriac and a bit of cream. It's just waiting for my dumplings now.

I'm not eating tonight as I was at a conference thing today in a hotel in Dundee and I had a fresh fruit starter (very posh with kiwi and pomegranate and those wee orange things that come with the papery leaves) and salmon and potatoes and courgettes and green beans.

wee orange things that come with the papery leaves No point in making faces at me. I don't know what they're called. I can hardly google 'wee funny orange fruit with papery leaves' to find out, can I? (In truth, I just did, and it didn't tell me what they were called.)

Physalis they're called, and they have a taste that reminds me of something but I can't remember what. I dare not eat kiwi fruit. I'm allergic to it. It's quite scary as it makes my throat itch like the devil and the last time I inadvertantly ate a tiny morsel (in fact I didn't eat any, but I ate a fruit salad that had included some kiwi fruit that I left on the side of the plate) I had a bloody great lump come up on my lip.

physalis are sour, they are posers fruit. me i love strawberrys have not had a chance to go pyo this year, the weather has been pants. The best i can do is buy Scottish ones from a supermarket at least they are as local as i can get even if they are from Perthshire and not the Highlands.

True, they are used to decorate a dish rather than be the main ingredient, but I wouldn't say they are posers' fruit. I don't find them particularly sour but they do have an unusual taste and I quite like them. I still can't think what they remind me of.

a sour pus in your life perhaps You mean "puss" rather than "pus" I hope! Yeeuk! No I don't find them sour - at least not overly so - but they have a certain taste that I can't put my finger on. Eh? Finger?

Is savoury rice classed as fresh food? Well, it was fresh from the packet. (I'm rubbish at that 5 fruityvegies a day lark though). AH
