Gothboy got a bonus (he works in financial services you know . . . but his company hasn't been nationalised so don't get upset about it!!!)
Today we are going to enter the 21st century televisually.
Instead of sitting watching a 12 inch portable which is shaped like a box, we are going to be watching one of those widescreen numbers with more than 5 stations.
Am excited. Are these new TVs as exciting as they look? I don't want one that's too big as I don't like rooms that are dominated by a television, but I'm excited nonetheless.
The only fly in the ointment is that i had suggested the bonus be used to buy me a really nice handbag, and Gothboy became startled at the concept that £20 or £30 was not enough money to buy a 'really nice' handbag. I said that while I'd really like about £800 I could probably get something half-decent for £300.
He just looked at me as if I was mad.
So it's a TV then. Hooray!!

What makes a handbag that costs £300 half decent? What is it made out of?

What makes a handbag that costs £300 half decent? What is it made out of? Leather obviously. It has to be huge; big enough to carry a lot of A4 size papers, plus my purse, camera, shades, ipod, keys, USB pen, etc. etc. I got a great one in Primark for £10 but within a week the handles pulled away because the stuff i carry about is too heavy. It would be so lovely to have a grown-up handbag. It would complete me. But no, I'm getting a telly instead.

Why can't they make handbags with a TV already installed?

Speaking as one who is to handbags what Imelda Marcos was to shoes, I'm with Riot on this. A good handbag (not one of yer £30 jobbies) is an investment. It'll last years unfortunately, removing my excuse to purchase another...

The last thing I'd save if my house was on fire would be the TV.
The salesman hasn't yet been born who could sell me a large screen one, plasma or otherwise.

Do you watch DVD's/Movies?
I wouldn't bother with one if I only watched normal TV, but they are boss for watching movies/DVD's.

Well it's all gone horribly wrong anyway.
We have the new tv - 32 inches.
But the screws in the stand are fuked, and we only have a silly wee philips screwdriver, and we can't get it fixed.
Gothboy is now in such a bad mood he is proposing to throw the new TV in the bin.

Update: Using pliers, the screws have been re-done, and we are now re-trying balancing the tv on the stand.
Also, I might still get a handbag. The only one I liked was £170, and Gothboy blanched a little at that one, so I took him out of John Lewis and into River Island where the handbags are about £20 or £30, and he immediately felt that I deserved a better handbag than that kind of thing.
So I remain hopeful on the fancy handbag front.
And have regained hope that the new TV may yet be stable enough to plug in before the end of the night.
Stability is a much under-rated virtue.

The guy at Richer Sounds said 'all in the box, bish bosh bash, no probs, up and running in time for Ant & Dec' (I paraphrase.) These shop barstewards KNOW about things like screwdrivers and stuff though, and Gothboy and I are more . . cerebral types.
