Did anyone watch the Ray Davies Imagine thing last night? Five minutes before it was due to start I actually sat on a different sofa to Mr. E. so he wouldn't distract me, I put my feet up and positioned two cushions behind my head for comfort. Then I fell straight to sleep and woke up at midnight. I'm now trying to watch it on iPlayer. I'm finding it quite interesting, and seeing all those black and white films of The Kinks performing during the 60s is very nostalgic.

Of course it's more his generation than mine but what a brilliant talent Ray Davies is and how good the Kinks were!

They were the absolute business, Linda. That riff at the beginning of "You Really Got Me" still sends a shiver through me all these years later.

I missed it, on account of a long phone-call from an old friend who's crawled out of the woodwork for Xmas. I know what you mean about that track, Ev. I just played it. I'm gonna hafta play the whole album now.

I didn't see it, but I know sites that will probably have it for download soon.
I'm going to be watching downloaded exploitation films on my new computer (the monitor is big enough for me to see from the bed, so I can lie there with a blanket over me and a glass of whisky on the bedside table and a hot water bottle under my dressing gown) and also a dvd set of the first series of Bilko that my mother has got me for Xmas.

I like the first one, but am not familiar with the First one. I don't understand, Weyland. It says First Nowell. Didn't occur to me to look it up, but I now see that that is an accepted spelling. Is nothing sacred? Thanks for the list. I'll probably be in bed, but I'll record it.

That's how we Anglicised it. Noel (with diaeresis which I can't do) is FRENCH!!!
The Tallis is particularly beautiful.

That's how we Anglicised it. Noel (with diaeresis which I can't do) is FRENCH!!! Botched job, and I've never encountered it before. Makes me bilious. The COD says this: Nowel (also Nowell) n noun archaic spelling of Noël.Diaeresis: Type & euml; without the blank.

Thank you, but I refuse to pretend it's an umlaut when it isn't. Botched job, and I've never encountered it before. I think that's how it's spelt in the source of the carol. (Not that it's a carol at all, of course, as properly defined.)

Last Christmas the disc at the top of the hit parade was a ditty entitled "killing in the name" and I am sure it would sound just super in the hands of a choir with the benefit of church acoustics. Perhaps you could suggest it for next year?

Do we still speak of the Hit Parade?

Thank you, but I refuse to pretend it's an umlaut when it isn't. Please yourself. I know it's not an umlaut, but it looks the same. Perhaps this will salve your conscience -- & #235; (without the blank).

Do we still speak of the Hit Parade? If there is one phrase that divides the generations it's "Hit Parade". I still say that and my son and daughter look at me as if I'm mad. They say "The Charts"
